JOE DEMARCO

Growing up on the gulf coast of Florida didn't make it easy to progress as a shaper or even a surfer. Long flat spells and low quality waves were normal most of the year. Traveling to the east coast and Costa Rica were a necessary means of keeping the stoke going. With ambition and determination, Joe DeMarco rose out from the doldrums of the sun coast and traveled out west to Half Moon Bay, California. There he met Jeff Clark, a local shaper and famous Mavericks pioneer, who helped him shape one of his first boards.

After a year on the foggy hillside of El Granada, Joe headed back to Fla to continue his shaping in warmer waters. Once back, he hooked up with legendary longboard shaper Juan Rodriguez, who had him doing restorations, ding repair, and encouraged Joe to learn everything about building surfboards from beginning to end. Joe decided to go out on his own building his own factory and shaping and glassing all of his own boards,  while getting positive feedback from the locals.

He later merged with NXTC shaper Tommy Daniels to create the sickest surfboard factory on the gulf coast. After a few years and a few hundred boards, Joe was offered a job at the Hawaiian Island Creations factory on Oahu. During his seven years in Hawaii, Joe DeMarco has worked to become one of the island's hottest new shapers with his own company, DeMarco Surf.

In addition, he is recognized as one of the area's top glassers, working directly with dozens of Hawaii's best shapers. Joe is thriving on the North Shore where he has been shaping sick boards for some of the local chargers and is quickly building a reputation for his quality and consistency. "The North Shore is the perfect setup to built and test my shapes. Feedback from good surfers on good waves is key in the development of quality design" Joe said. "My goal is to shape your next great board".

Joe is currently running his own shaping and glassing facility at an undisclosed location deep in the North Shore country. When he is not surfing or shaping your next board, Joe likes riding his Yamaha YZ-250 and snowboarding in Europe.
